Root Canal Treatment
Stress-free and pain-free
Root canals
The idea of root canal treatment can cause some patients anxiety, but we want to allay these worries and make your experience as stress-free and pain-free as possible.
Root canal is about ‘saving’ a tooth that may have been damaged or infected through deep decay, breakage or injury to the mouth. The treatment is designed to alleviate any pain you’re currently experiencing and save your tooth, so that the end result will be a welcome relief.
Dr. Shamir Chandarana has completed post-graduate education in Endodontics (Root Canal Treatments) at King’s College London and is passionate about using his skills to help patients keep their teeth for as long as possible.

Is root canal treatment painful?
It may be comforting to know that root canal treatment at Dental House is relatively comfortable and usually completely painless, as we carry out treatment under local anaesthetic. We are experts at administering anaesthetic in the most effective way, numbing any affected teeth for instant relief and a more relaxing treatment.
How is root canal treatment carried out?
During the procedure, we gently make a small opening in the crown of the tooth and remove any infected or inflamed pulp. We then clean and shape the root canals using small, specially designed tools, flush them of any debris using an antibacterial solution, before sealing them with an inert material called gutta-percha. Finally, and by no means least, we restore your tooth to its full shape and function using either a permanent filling or a crown.
Root canal treatment may be completed in a single or multiple visits depending on the complexity of the tooth.
How do I care for the root-treated tooth?
We recommend avoiding chewing or biting on the treated tooth until you have it restored with either a permanent filling or crown. Excessive pressure may crack or fracture the tooth, therefore it is important to restore the tooth back to its natural function as soon as possible.
Root-filled teeth are as prone to decay as natural teeth, which is why we strongly urge you to continue to practise good oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing, as well as maintain regular visits with your dentist.
